Biosphere Reserve and Bermeo

To reach Urdaibai, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1984, take the exit to Amorebieta from the A-8, then the BI-635 that runs through the park.

In the Mundaka Estuary Reserve Center, you can go bungee jumping, rafting, rappelling and scuba diving.
Opposite the mouth of the estuary stands Izaro Island, inhabited by a colony of gulls and egrets. In the estuary, at low tide, are uncovered extensive beaches. Only Laida, the best known, is permanent. We recommend visiting Urdaibai in September, when migrating birds are in full abundance.

If you start the route from the left bank of the estuary,  the first stop is at Bermeo. A quintessential fishing village, it is interesting to attend the arrival of the boats and the fish auction. It was the first population of Biscay which won the title of town. It became the most important port in the area until Bilbao, in the fifteenth century,  became more competent. Today it is the most important coastal port of Biscay.

It is interesting to visit the Fisherman's Museum, in the tower of Ercilla.
